Done for the Season

Filed under: Autumn, Black & White, Flowers, Hi Res, Nature, Plants, Sigma DP3 Merrill, Sigma DP3M — collin j örthner @ 9:11 pm

Welcome to my 555th post!!!

Looks like our ferns are about done for the season. They are one of the first bits of green we get to see in spring and what a welcome sight indeed! Now, however they are spent and will return to the soil to further the next seasons growth.

Tinges of Pink

Filed under: Abstract, Architecture, Documentary, Flowers, Hand of Man, Leica T — collin j örthner @ 3:17 pm

Pink, magenta, purple, whichever you think works best! The same day I got the “Bits of Blue” images I also acquired a few that fit the warmer palette of pink. The first image maybe is a bit subtle, but I really like the tiny roses and scattered rose petals adding just a tiny specks of colour.

Leica T

Filed under: Abstract, Architecture, Flowers, Hand of Man, Leica T, Plants — collin j örthner @ 11:13 pm

Nothing like having the Leica rep drop by the shop and offer to leave the new Leica T camera for me to play with for a bit. I immediately went for a walk around the block and wow am I ever enjoying this camera. It is carved from a solid block of aluminum and the screen on the back takes up the whole back of the camera and is a touch screen just like an iPhone. In fact this thing looks like it could have come out of an Apple factory with it’s complete minimalism of 2 dials and a shutter button and clean lines. The image quality appears to be very nice too. I am looking forward to doing a lot more with it shortly, but the few minutes I’ve used it so far are making me a happy camper!

Sparrow’s-Egg Lady Slipper Orchid (Cypripedium passerinum)

Filed under: E-M5, Flowers, Nature, Olympus MZuiko 60mm Macro, Plants — collin j örthner @ 11:04 pm

I took my friend Gary Kuiken out to Gull Lake this afternoon as he heard I had found some Sparrow’s-Egg Lady Slipper orchids about a week ago and really wanted to see them and make a few images. Unfortunately, they were almost all done blooming, but we managed to locate a few decent specimens after a bit of scrounging around and he made some nice images. I made a few exposures of them  myself a few days back when I first located them as seen below:

It Might Be a Blizzard Outside, But It’s Like Spring Inside

Filed under: Abstract, Flowers, Panorama, Panoramic, Plants, Sigma DP2 Merrill, Sigma DP2M — collin j örthner @ 10:20 pm

Has snowed all day and it’s still coming down! 😦  Laura, though, has made it feel like spring in our house with some beautiful tulips. Please don’t think this is a terrible camera. I added a bunch of grain for effect.
