Sweet CG!!

Immediately south of Red Deer looking straight west at 9:51pm MST, Aug.28th, 2013.

I was about to give up on this little storm. A fair bit of lightning, but I kept missing the strikes, or I might only capture a bit of one. It had appeared to be over with no further strikes, but I kept thinking maybe one more, and kept at it. This was literally the last strike from the storm. So thankful to get to witness this awesome power and capturing an image like this is a huge bonus!

Window Into The Past

While strolling through downtown Portland we came across an antique shop with a fantastic window display showing off a few of their gems. It became an immediate need for me to make an image. With the sun already having set and some street lights on already I needed to turn up the ISO a bit on my camera (what a luxury!) and made this image handheld as I did’t have my tripod with me. That is how we operated for the most part in Portland, drive around trying to find someplace to park and then simply wonder around  with no real goal in mind other than to see what makes Portland tick.

Sun-Oka Beach

Sunny Okanagan is my highly educated guess for the shortened name Sun-Oka! Took me forever to figure that out too……. 😉 Well the picture lives up to the description anyway. The colours of the umbrella drew me in and the I noticed her beach chair matches too. Looks to me like she is having a great holiday. As I am getting out my camera to make the image a tiny cloud formed allowing for a sky that isn’t just an ordinary blue.  Nice.

Multnomah Falls, Oregon

Filed under: Hi Res, Nature, Rocks, Sigma DP1 Merrill, Sigma DP1M, Travel, Water — collin j örthner @ 12:00 pm

Situated along the Columbia River Gorge just east of Portland you can view a spectacular falls – Multnomah Falls. It is the highest waterfall in Oregon at 189m (620′). I made this image from the footbridge built in 1914 that crosses over the creek above the lower falls. There were so many tourists it was almost impossible to get the shot. I would love to visit again in fall when the tour buses  would be mostly gone and the colours along the gorge would be stunning!
